Ageing

Signs of ageing are a result of the skin’s functioning declining; a person’s collagen production can start to slow down from as early an age as twenty-one!

As collagen slows down, the elastin fibres begin to breakdown over large areas of tissue as well and the skin loses its juicy bounce. Likewise, dead cells are building up on the surface as part of the skin natural defence mechanisms, an armour plate as it were, against the assaults of free radicals and sun damage. These cells accentuate signs of ageing, turning fine lines into wrinkles and making the skin appear crinkly and crepe-like.

There are two fundamental causes of signs of ageing such as wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin. The first cause is determined by an individual’s genetic makeup, while the second cause is outside influences such as environmental damage, free radicals and poor diet. People for example who are sun worshippers in their younger years or are on yo-yo weight loss diets are especially prone to crepe-like or wrinkled, loose body skin. This is why starting to look after your skin from an early age can be so beneficial.

It is much easier to prevent skin conditions than to revise but it is never too late to start looking after your skin. Most skin care brands will only focus on the surface, temporarily plumping out the wrinkles and lines but not changing the reason they occurred in the first place, meaning they will just return. However, utilising Advanced Skin Treatments in conjunction with paramedical skincare provides long-term results, by getting to the core of the problem and revising the decline that causes skin to age.

Recommended treatments for Ageing:

  • The BBL Hero Forever Young treatment addresses the overall appearance of the skin, retexturising the skin surface, reducing the size of pores, hydrating the skin and minimising the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also corrects vascular and pigmentation concerns by addressing any small visible vessels, telangiectasia or flushing, pigmented lesions and other pigmentation issues.

Pigmentation

Unique in its cause, Pigmentation is the result of the skin’s defensive mechanisms being wrongly triggered. It can often feel like there is no rhyme or reason for the appearance of pigmentation and this can be incredibly frustrating. With the help of one of our talented Skin Technicians, pigmentation can be revised, managed, and prevented.

More than just what determines the colour of your skin, the melanin cells that generate pigment are a defensive mechanism created by the body to protect the DNA strands within a cell from ultraviolet radiation (UVR). However, when the skin’s and body’s systems are dysfunctional any form of trauma can stimulate melanin production.

Successful pigmentation revision requires a treatment program and consistent use of Home Prescriptive products. There is no magic bullet in the revision of pigmentation. Prevention is always easier than revision however as the melanosomes can be spread through all three layers of the skin being as deep as the hyperdermis. This can make it extremely difficult even with transdermal delivery systems and products and laser treatments to penetrate far enough to revise the pigmentation.

  • The BBL Hero Corrective Treatment is a one pass wonder. Treating vascular and pigmentation concerns by correcting any visible vessels, telangiectasias or flushing, pigmented lesions and other pigmentation issues.

Acne

There is often more than one cause when it comes to acne meaning there is no quick, one method fix. A chronic inflammatory condition of the hair follicle and its sebaceous gland, acne closely reflects the state of the body’s hormonal and immunity systems. There are both genetic or external triggers such as, birth control pills, cosmetics, hormonal imbalances, medications, picking and squeezing pimples, friction and pressure on the skin, lifestyle and climate conditions.

Some of the best treatments for acne rapidly change the pH of the skin to very low (acid) or to very high (alkaline). An acid formula will ‘harden’ the dead and dying skin very quickly and the brittle cells then ‘pop off.’ An alkaline solution will soften and dissolve the dead and dying skin as well as hair (this is very good for folliculitis conditions). It is vital to follow these treatments with a comprehensive at home regime to restore the skins natural pH levels.

The occasional bump or breakout might not be a big deal to some. Persistent acne, on the other hand, can be a frustrating problem, affecting your self-esteem and confidence. Your feelings about acne may have everything to do with the extent of your skin problem, which can range from mild to severe.

Recommended treatments for Acne:

  • The Forever Clear BBL Hero procedure utilises blue, yellow, and infrared light energy to clear acne along with the damage it has caused. Broad Band Light (BBL™) is the world’s most powerful form of Intense Pulsed Light and it works by delivering light energy deep into the skin to target the sebaceous glands and remove acne-causing bacteria. The innovative Forever Clear BBL™ treatment is also designed to stimulate skin cells to regenerate; combatting active acne, promoting a more even skin tone, less noticeable pores and reduction in future outbreaks.

Redness/Rosacea

Having consistently red, sensitive or inflammed skin is not normal, nor is it a condition that has to be lived with. Skin that is in a reactive state is usually a result of an impaired skin barrier, and though it can take time, it is possible to revise with a comprehensive treatment and Home Prescriptive regime.

Researchers believe that reactive skin conditions such as rosacea and eczema can be hereditary. They can also be caused by environmental factors such as pollution and not just smog, but think in terms of ‘sick building syndrome’, chemicals encountered in the workplace, etc. Fumes from a new carpet, new furniture. Even preservatives in processed foods and chemicals in hygiene products may act as triggers.

Then there are internal triggers, mainly stress which elevates the body’s cortisol levels and over a prolonged period of time this suppresses the immune system, causing inflammatory conditions to occur. This is not just mental stress, there is also physical stress. Fatigue, systemic dehydration or malnutrition, or literal metabolic exhaustion or overexertion from extended travel, rigorous activity or athletic training, or recovery from illness release of pro-inflammatory stress hormones and chemicals. High levels of inflammatory proteins in the tissues slow their regenerative processes, increase the tissues’ rigidity and restrict its healing potential. What this means is the skin’s barrier defence systems (the lymphatic drainage and circulatory systems, immune responses, Langerhans and keratinocyte cells) are breaking down and consequently reactive skin conditions form.

At Bloom Skin Aesthetics we go beyond calming the condition and focus on bringing the skin’s function back to homeostasis so it can cease being reactive. Skin is not as fragile or sensitive as we are led to believe. It is a strong organ designed to protect us and it has the amazing ability to regenerate itself.
